I have a 2014 Subaru XV that I bought second-hand when it was four years old. The car currently has 192,000 km on it, and I’ve noticed it leaks a small amount of oil when parked overnight. It still drives well, and the CVT transmission is original. Given these factors, how much longer can I expect the car to last?
I know you have this car in the US too, so I am wondering about your experience with them. I drive it on the highway to work and back. Added that's 100 km a day.
Hello from Romania.
how much longer can I expect the car to last?
Hmmm... My crystal ball doesn't seem to be working, so there's no way to tell. How much oil is leaking and where is it leaking from? (Subaru engines are put together with RTV instead of gaskets and they can start leaking as they age.)
Depending on the conditions it is in, it can last a long or short time. The oil leak and the fact that it's a CVT gearbox doesn't mean it won't last. I recommend going to a trusted mechanic so that he can check the car to see its condition and thus be able to give a good answer on this matter, and ask for his opinion on the engine that the car is equipped with, as in general we know that in Regarding the CVT, it doesn't have the best reputation
But don't overthink the cvt, Scotty has videos of reviews of Subaru Crosstek CVTs and they had 320 thousand km with the original box, sometimes you just have to take good care of it and it will last a little longer.
add a little oil once a week and forget about it. its an 11 year old car they all leak sooner or later....I have a 97 Tercel has leaked for years I add a little oil every Sunday and keep on going....
