[Solved] 2014 Toyota Camry XLE transmission shudder

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2014 Toyota Camry XLE 4 cylinder automatic transmission with 195,000 miles on it. While driving the transmission shudders and feels like it’s losing speed while I have it in drive. If I put it in the S mode on the shifter it seems to not shudder. But, I noticed the ECO light goes off and it uses more fuel while in S mode on gear shifter. I apologize I don’t know the technical terms for the S mode on shifter. Thank you in advance if there is something I can do to help this problem without breaking the bank. I cannot check the transmission fluid, there isn’t any dipstick.

Thanks Again,

Michelle

There is a known problem with the U760E (?) torque converter. Reference this video:

I forgot to note: Whenever modern Toyotas are switched to manual shifting control, the ECO light goes off. Nothing to be alarmed with about that.

As for transmission fluid changes: Drain and fills at every 60k are recommended for 90%+ of all Toyotas that are on the road today (city driving, short trips, mountains are all "severe driving" conditions). If the fluid hasn't been changed...  That could also be an issue. At that mileage, do not flush the transmission.

Thank you
