Hi, I have a 2015 Malibu LS with the NA 2.5L engine. It’s an automatic with 100k miles on it. One night I started it up and the power steering warning popped on. The power steering works fine. But when that warning came on, the locks would go crazy when put into Drive. When it engaged drive the transmission slammed hard. It had no power until shifting into 2nd then it was fine. It would do it intermittently. I took it to the dealer and they told me it COULD be the TCM. I’m suspecting it’s probably the ECM. What do you think? And is there anything I can do before paying $1200 to replace a part that might not even be the real root of the problem? I’ve come up with possible bad battery cell briefly dropping voltage, bad bcm harness, bad ground cable, or ecm losing communication with other modules maybe. I will try the battery reset trick. But if you have any input that could save me some money, I’d appreciate it. Thanks
take it to an transmission specialist instead of dealership.
