Scotty,
Wanted to start by saying I have been watching your YouTube videos for years and want to thank you for what you do.
My sister-in-law owns a 2015 Nissan Rogue Select with low miles (8,800). She won it new in a lottery! Never been wrecked or flooded. Air bag warning light in the instrument cluster just started flashing. The passenger indicator light is functioning normally. Local Nissan dealer says it's the passenger side occupant sensor and to fix the entire seat (or seat bottom) needs to be replaced for about $1,700. She is single, on fixed income, and has hardly ever had a passenger in the car. Was always garaged until about 1-1/2 years ago. Since then she has been parking it the driveway under the Fort Worth, TX sun. Other than one long trip a little over a year ago when she moved from Northwest Missouri to Fort Worth, she just drives it around town about once a week.
Dealer pulled 2 codes: B00A0-02 and B00A0-8F.
She never stored anything under the seats. I looked under and everything is connected. I tried wiggling the connectors under the seats. No help. I tried resetting the warning light by turning the key on without starting, then as soon as the light went off, I turned the key off, waited at least 5 seconds and repeated this three times. After it went through its diagnostics it now flashes two slow blinks, then two fast blinks, and repeats. So, the light is not going out, it's blinking.
I want to point out that the dealer was good about doing the diagnostic work at no charge. We opted not to authorize repairs yet.
I see no bulletins or recalls regarding this issue. I've worked on cars quite a bit in my younger years, but no experience with this kind of issue. Rather intimidated by anything airbag related. I'd like to try to help her by fixing myself. Seems crazy such a problem occurred on a car with so little usage and wear. Any suggestions?
If I can't fix myself I'll try calling Nissan and ask if they will help with the repairs.
Thank you!
Ted Dohse
Correction: The pattern of the flashing is one slow, two fast, repeating.
