Hi Scotty

My wife drives a 2015 VW Jetta 1.4tfsi with 80000km's on it which we have owned since new. When selecting reverse it occasionally doesn't engage, the reverse indicator flashes. You have to put it back into park and then reverse and it works. Should we be worried it is turning into a money pit?

oh WOW

Thanks for the advice. It is my wife's company car and they have offered to sell it to us. I will have to give it a miss then.

Thanks

I hate to break it to you, but it’s your transmission..

Unfortunately the DSG is one of the worst transmissions on the planet, and has a class action lawsuit against it.

If you’re out of warranty, I’d take it to a DSG transmission specialist, and have them diagnose it. However, if it’s something major within your transmission, I’d get rid of the car ASAP, before reverse goes out completely..

You should Google ‘DSG transmission issues’ and see how people from all over the world are suffering with it.

In future, if you must have a German vehicle, lease it brand new & then return it when you’re done with it. It’s very risky owning a German vehicle (especially out of warranty) due to issues like this.

I’ve read owner reports of the DSG transmissions failing (and needing a partial/complete replacement) with as little as 1000 miles.
