Hey Scotty !
I'm Interested in buying a 2017-2018 Honda civic , Honda accord or Acura ilx , the Hondas have the CVT transmission and the Acura has the DCT 8 speed tranny. Just wondering what you would recommend for the more reliable long-term of these three ?
Thank-you
Tim
Well, of those 3 and those years, the best in terms of long term reliability/longevity point of view will be the 2017/2018 Honda Civic with the true and tried 2.0L naturally aspirated engine with port injection (no GDI) mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. That would be my choice if reliability was the top priority and wanted to keep the vehicle for as long as possible and putting hundreds of thousands of miles on it. The others are not proven especially with the smaller displacement turbo charge engines (in the current Gen Accord) and dual clutch transmission (in the ILX) I would avoid for long term ownership. Having said that, have you driven a Civic and does the ride, space, features work for you? It’s not for everyone.
Also the Accord and ILX are GDI (with zero port injection) so can be susceptible to carbon buildup on the back of the intake valves over time, another maintenance to stay on top of (via catch cans and cleaning back of intake valves every so often).
