Anyone have any thoughts on a 2017 ford focus? I’ve read that there are issues with the dual clutch transmission. My daughter is looking at this car. We checked the VIN and it’s clean if issues. We also checked Fords website for any recalls on the vehicle by VIN through the dealer and nothing came up.
I’d love to get any insights on the car. Buy it or stay away?
A car's mileage and the 'asking' price are usually necessary for someone to make a fair assessment. Best steer away from this car. Those dual clutch transmission issues are a deal breaker. An experienced, cautious and 'mechanically knowledgeable' daughter might be able to drive it in a fashion that adds some longevity to the transmission, but it will still go kaput. https://www.vehiclehistory.com/report/ford/focus/2017

Saying there are "issues" with that transmission is a huge understatement.

Unless you dislike her for some reason don't let her buy that car unless it has a manual transmission.
No

I wouldn't touch that with a 10-foot pole unless it has a manual transmission. The engineers at Ford knew they were selling defective DCTs and they didn't care, until the government made them recall them. Only certain Focuses were actually recalled, once they were finally recalled. The 1.5L was an ordinary automatic transmission, that's it.
