Hey Scotty!
I have a 2017 Corolla with 90k miles.
after driving on the highway and then stopping at a red light, the Rolla’ shakes while in idle. Freaks me out. It’s not a crazy shake but you can definitely tell that something is going on.
thanks Scotty!
Does the shaking go away when you rev up a little bit?
Many things can cause a rough idle, either on a cold start or when hot: dirty fuel injectors, clogged air filters, worn out spark plugs, exhaust system issues.
You need to check all these one by one from the most simple (air filter) to the worst possible.
No shaking while revving. I've been putting the car in neutral while idling and it stops shaking. It gets rough after I get off the highway. The car has 100k miles.
Give it a tune up and check if it still persists.
Has the transmission fluid been changed regularly?
If your car only shakes when the car is idling and it's in drive, then there's a good chance it's your torque converter. You stated that the car idles fine if you switch the trans into neutral while idling, so that's a pretty good indicator that the torque converter has issues.
It's a pretty expensive repair to get it replaced.
