I have a 2018 Corolla with cruise control. Everything is fine when on flat ground but when the cruise try’s to slow the car going downhill the rpm’s run up to 4000 for an extended period. This is unlike any car I have ever owned. Just wondering if this is an issue with my car or is this normal for all corolla’s?Also first cvt I have owned.

Can your vehicle’s cruise control modulate the brakes? If not, using engine braking (with the CVT) might be the only way the system is designed to maintain speed going downhill.

Try to find another model as your vehicle & try to take it for a test drive on your regular route to check if it behaves the same/differently.
