2019 Ford Ranger toxic smell from heater

  1. I bought a brand new 2019 Ford Ranger Lariat 4x4 a year ago. Problem is when heater is turned on a very bad burnt like smell (causing me headache and nasal congestion) comes out. Smell comes out only when heater is used, not the cold A/C. What is causing this bad smell ? And also my battery started to die on me 3-4 times since this heater issue started. Sent it back to Dealer and they cleaned it as their initial intervention but it failed. Now their plan is to change the entire A/C heater system but every part is on back order, no stock nation wide. Truck will stay with dealer for 3-4 more weeks.
  2. My other question is.. Will Ford Replace my A/C Heater system with OEM parts? Thanks guys.

Mouse nest in your heater box ?

If it has a sweet bitey smell...that's antifreeze. Loose hose connection would be easiest. Doesn't take much of a leak for bad odor.

Take the truck out of the dealership. Evidently they don't have a clue.

Any deodorizing aerosol sprayed into the air inlet for the HVAC, on the outside of the truck should temporarily hide the odor. Uncooked coffee grounds inside the vehicle will absorb the odor.

Thanks Heyinway. But the scent is not as you described. It is very noxious burnt like smell. Like hard muscky odor. If I use the cold A/C, no bad scent is emitting. The smell is only present when using the heater with the thermostat set at 65, 68 F and up to the 80's. anymore thoughts about this?

By the way, my truck is still under warranty and I want to avail it. They are also providing me with their LOANERS CAR for work and daily drive. thanks.

Sounds like some kritter or decomposing organic matter is stuck to your heater core.  It will have to be removed and checked.  Mine had so much crap on it I'm surprised it didn't catch on fire.  I now park inside the garage.

Another possibility is something fell down the defroster vents on top of the dash. Something plastic and giving off fumes when heated...no fumes when cold.

Hopefully they take the dash apart now instead of potentially waiting months for back-ordered parts it may not need.

Dealers don't put a lot of effort into warranty work because they don't make much money off it.

Yeah sounds like an overheating electrical component in the heater system if the smell is that bitting. Your just gonna have to ride the dealers A@# on this one.
