2019 Subaru Crosstrek Wonky Heat and Air

My friend has this car with 102k miles on it.

The blower motor seems to work, but the heat will not come on until after driving for a bit, and if she stops, the air returns to outside temp.

She also mentioned a sloshing sound when accelerating. She said her coolant is full.

I thought about blend door, but not sure the way it is working.

Anybody run across this before?

Check for a bad/weak radiator cap. It's happened to me.

Thanks, yeah this morning I told her it is best to go ahead and get a new radiator cap just in case, oem.

@nlord Low coolant explains all her symptoms.. You did get a free lunch, right? lol

Sloshing sound when accelerating can be due to water trapped in the HVAC system due to clogged drains.

coolant was low, and reservoir empty.

No. Evaporation does not do that. She's losing coolant.

Yeah I was afraid of that, trying to be hopeful. I will start checking for leaks. Thanks!

I forgot to mention that it also is random, sometimes acts crazy, sometimes not.

I was also thinking thermostat stuck open, but that doesn't seem to fit either.

So to update this, when I saw her at lunch I checked the radiator, and the coolant was low, and reservoir empty. We were both going different directions, but she was getting coolant, and adding some to coolant reservoir, and monitoring.

She said she had not noticed any leaks, I sure hope the coolant is not going into the engine.

I do see some info showing that they lose some to evaporation, and others saying they have to top it up a bit every now and then.
