I have a 2019 Tacoma TRD with 6 speed manual, bought it new with 4 miles on it in 2019(before the crazy prices lol) i currently have 12000 miles in 3 years owning it, im lucky i have company car for 90% of my driving. now dealer says i only need oil change at 10k miles regardless how many months, i was told 10k or 1 year minimun by other people, should i force them to do it or go elsewhere, or am i good doing it once every 2 years only? Also being truck sits a lot hardly driven, should i be doing any extra maintenance to prevent things going bad due to lack of use
Lose the dealer. Change the oil and filter every 5K miles somewhere else, regardless of your warranty.
You don't want to ruin your engine because of a free oil change.
10k/1yr. is the minimum oil change interval that will make it to the end of the warranty period. After that you're on your own for any engine repairs. DON'T go by that, change it every 5k/6 months if you want your Taco's engine to last. Watch the video and see if you want to continue the 10k stupidity from the dealers and Toyota.

I get that. Guess what is getting at is. I only put around 3000 miles a year, so at 6 months i have like 1500 to 2000 miles on the oil. So 1 year 3000 miles or 6 months 1700 miles. Im not concerned about cost of oil change. Just wondering if at 1700 miles average im wasting oil unnecessarily
Change the oil once per year. Spring is probably best.
But try to take the vehicle for an hour long field trip every week or two to get the engine hot and burn off any contaminants and lubricate the inside. This will also prolong the life of your battery.
