2020 Honda Pilot Rear Differential Flush

Hey Scotty. My parents own a 2020 Honda Pilot (15k miles) and the dealer told them to get a rear differential flush when they went to get the oil changed. My dad has never heard of this type of thing, so he refused. Should he eventually get the rear differential flushed?

there's no such thing.

Differentials are drained and refilled.

I think they meant to say "wallet flush"

Yes. Wonder what they charge for such and easy job.

Differentials get a drain and fill, no such thing as flush for diff. unless the service writer doesn't know the difference and uses the terms interchangeably. And 15k is too early...typically 30-40k miles.

They drain and fill the differential.  No "flush".

Newer Honda's do trigger a code to replace the fluid early the first time.  So, the dealer is likely being honest.

After that, it should be good for 30,000 miles or more.

It is important to use the Honda branded fluid. It takes about 2 quarts.

The dealer will ream your parents for at least $150 in labor plus parts and "shop supplies" to do a job that needs maybe $50 in supplies and 30 minutes to do.

This guy shows how it's done on a 2019. You have a nice drain plug, my truck needs the back cover strategically unbolted to contain the mess.

The dealer is trying to put you through the grease.  @mmj is right, differentials don't get flushed, they get drained and refilled and certainly NOT at 15K miles.
