2020 Mini Cooper Car dolly towing

Hey Scotty,

Thanks for all that you do.

I have a 2020 Mini Cooper convertible that I'd like to tow behind the RV. It is an automatic with front wheel drive. The transmission goes to park s soon as the engine is shut off. I'm not sure why but the tow dolly manual states to put the tranny in neutral for towing. The owners manual states that the proper towing technique is front wheels up but is referring to tow truck type towing. Mini dealers are reluctant to answer this question because they don't really know. One service dept. foreman said that it is ok but I'll get a check engine light but it will go away after a few miles. I'm looking to tow it regularly on my car dolly for 100 to 2000 miles on various travel trips but I am hoping for some answers on long term concerns if any?

The manual says it al there...says front wheels up....means the front end is raised whether its on a tow truck wheel platform or even on crane suspended in the air. Using a tow dolly results in the same meanng. Means basically the front wheels must not be driven.   Manual should have clairified that this vehicle cannot be towed four wheels on the road.

Thanks Dion, have you heard anything regarding the check engine warning after?

Your getting the check engine error because the ECM has detected the rear wheels are revolving but notices the front wheels are not. it probably will be a ABS code but once you get the car off the dolly and drive it the code will soon disappear as the ECM detects wheels revolving now all in sync.

Thank you again
