Hey Scotty, I just picked up a 2021 Honda Accord 2.0T with a 10-speed automatic. It's a blast to drive in sport mode. Is there any downside to driving in sport mode all the time besides bad gas mileage?
Thanks @Kerem !
There are some downsides to driving in Sport mode all the time. As fun as it is, of course it does cause extra wear on the turbo, engine, and transmission because rather than shifting in an efficient manner it shifts and holds gears to optimize boost and acceleration. You'll also see a big dip in MPG as you noted.
Though nobody really knows the long term effects it would cause, simple science tells us that the longer a turbo stays spooled up, the faster it wears out. And the more stress on the motor, the faster it wears out. Same with the transmission.
I use it from time to time but I wouldn't leave it in Sport mode all day, every day. The throttle is too touchy in rush hour traffic anyway in Sport. 99% of the time I have it in Regular mode. I never use Economy....that's a good way to become a hood ornament down here in Texas.
