2023 Honda CR*V Hybrid Direct Injection

I am looking at the new 20223 CRV.  This year they have added Direct Injection to the engine.  I have read about the issues with deposits in direct injection engines.

Is Honda's direct injection like Toyotas in which it has additional injectors  in the ports prior to the valves?

This year they have added Direct Injection to the engine.

They have had direct injection on the CRV and many other Hondas for years now. This is nothing new.

Is Honda's direct injection like Toyotas in which it has additional injectors  in the ports prior to the valves?

No.  Honda uses direct injection only, while Toyota uses both port and direct injection, so therefore not susceptible to carbon buildup over time on the back of the intake valves.

I have not been impressed by Honda designs and engineering for sometime now.  Changing timing belt, adjusting valves every so often, cylinder deactivation (well, in the V6 engines), turbocharged engines, oil dilution…..Toyota has none of those shortcomings (although now they are switching to turbos).

If you do a google search, there are a number of sites and forums that discuss this exact question about carbon build up on Honda engines.

Honda does not use a dual injection system on their D.I. motors.

From what I can gather, Honda "times" their D.I. engines with overlap so that a small amount of fuel comes into direct contact with the intake valves cleaning them in the process.

Supposedly it's not an issue, however I was unable to find a conclusive test.

If there is any question about carbon build up, use the CRC GDI IDV spray once in a while to clean up the intake valves.
