Faced with an astronomical repair bill, the owner of a 2013 Tesla Model S recently decided that he'd rather strap 66 pounds of dynamite to the vehicle and record it exploding into thousands of pieces than pay the cost to fix it!
F.S.
$22,600 to replace the battery?! (Add that to the already high purchase price to even get into a new Tesla). Yeah, no thank you.
The actual model S battery pack is $12,000 but when you factor in the additional costs of labor, etc, it ends up being $22,000+. That's insane. The cost of replacing an ICE is far less.
Just another reason not why to buy one.
And what do they charge you as a recycle fee for the old battery?
One way or another that's going to be the fate of all electric cars when the batteries fail out of warranty.
