How do I treat an F150 that has been sitting for a year

I was gifted 06 F-150 has been sitting for 1 year start a write-up when the gifter started it has 300,000 miles on it what should I do with it before I even drive it away I just had it tagged but I don't want to drive it and break something because it's been sitting so long and has so many miles Scotty you're a great guy I just discovered you you're funny and you make working on cars seemed so much fun please help

Can you please try to throw in a period or two. Your question is difficult to read {blackemo}:exhausted:  

 

A year isn't that long. You won't break anything. Just get it started and see if it moves. Check the air in the tires. Get it warmed up and take it for a spin. Then change the oil+filter and read the owner's manual for any other maintenance that's due.

First take a 1/2 breaker bar with the correct size socket to the crankshaft pulley to make sure you can turn over the engine by hand. There might be a reason the truck was sitting for a year. My advice is to make sure the engine has not seized.

And try out the brakes and steering at a LOW speed before you drive at highway speed.
