Good morning, what is your opinion of the gmc 5.3 liter engine. I have an  option to purchase a 2019 gmc truck with the 5.3 liter, low miles, 4 wheel drive. Or should i avoid this deal.

I would avoid it.

If you do buy it, you'll have to live with the AFM system unless you want to void your warranty.

GM quality has gone downhill over the years and that extends into their power train as well.  With respect to the 5.3L V8, that’s part of the the Ecotec3 family.  This particular one in the 2019 GMC Sierra (L82 engine) has cylinder deactivation (GM calls it active fuel management) as well as direct injection (there is no port injection).  These features will cause reliability problems, esp. over time.  The cylinder deactivation has a higher propensity to wear out/damage the engine and really needs to be disabled (via software), but the true solution is to remove the actual hardware behind it (i.e. replace lifters and cam, and then tune out via software which can cost several thousand dollars to do).  The direct injection will lead to carbon buildup eventually.  And that is on top of GM’s lack of quality as well as electronics which GM is not known for.

If I were you and wanted to keep the truck for a long time and put well beyond 100,000 miles on it, I would pass on it

we'll see how they do. It's too soon to tell.
