Scotty,
What are your thoughts on the new 5th gen Ram 2500s? They're really nice trucks but I'm not to keen on the reputation of Fiat Chrysler, but I have friends that love them. I'm a home mechanic so I don't mind some minor issues...
I would only consider the Ram 2500 with the 6.7L Cummings Diesel mated to the 6-speed Aisin transmission. However, the rest of the vehicle will have issues (esp. if you keep long term) even though the engine/transmission combo I mentioned is pretty solid. So for long term reliability I would not recommend it.
DayWalker, correct me if I’m wrong because I very well could be but to my knowledge you can’t get a 2500 with the Aisin, it’s only available with the high output 6.7 3500s.
In 2019 and 2020 the Cummings Diesel High Output version was offered with the 6-speed Aisin. See both links below:

People buy the Ram heavy duty trucks for one thing... the Cummins. When the cheap parts and electronics FCA uses go out. People replace them with reputable aftermarket cause that 6.7 will go and go and go, it loves to work. I would not buy one with all that fancy crap. Just get the basic trim level and ride it out. Keep in mind there are rumors that FCA might be putting Allison transmissions in the upcoming models. But it’s all rumor for now as far as I know.
I wouldn't. Regardless of powertrain remember the rest of the truck is 100% Fiat. They don't make ANYTHING of quality.
