Seems like if your not in the turbo, it acts like it's going to die. Had it a couple of years now. Other than that it's been a real fun car. What do you think? I know it's a mazda set-up. My machanic is stumped.

If your mechanic is stumped, it may be time to find a new one.
1. Check the fuel filter
2. Check the air filter
3. Pressure test the fuel pump
4. Run some fuel injector cleaner through it if you haven't done so already.
I'd start there. It sounds like a fuel problem to me.
I did. I was thinking head or head gaskit?
