Scotty, I have inherited my son's '97 Cavalier. I know you must be laughing right now, but as my first born he took great care of it mechanically, so it still runs at 216,000 miles. It has the 4 cylinder higher performance engine. Several years ago he changed from the original weight oil to full synthetic. Should I keep doing that or go back to the 5W30? I'm concerned that like you have said in the past that older cars need the heavier oil. It still runs like a little race car and I would like to keep it as my beater car. Thanks, Joe.

Keep using your kids oil, changing now will do more damage than good.

Keep using what he used never change oil once an engine has used one particular type and it works well
