A/c blows cold then hot

On a hot day when i turn my A/C on it blows cold then it blow hot for a second then blows cold again. it only does this for maybe 30 seconds and then goes right back to cold, when it does go hot i can smell what i believe a Freon sent for a second and then everything is fine.

My bet is that you will need to recharge the AC system.


is it wise to use a can from the auto parts store or use a can from the dealer?


You should be ok using a can from a discount auto parts store.

It is likely a low charge situation with the low side going into suction and tripping the low-pressure cutout switch. You should get a gauge set (a cheap $50 set from Harbor Freight is OK for occasional use) so you can see what's going on inside the AC system instead of working blind. There are videos on youtube showing how to connect and use the gauges.

Always wear eye protection when working with refrigerant.
