What's the code?
You need a high level scan tool to analyze the data for the ABS system. As you know, the issue is related to the ABS, but to find out what really is happening, scan tool is necessary.
If you plan to keep the car a long time and do your own servicing you may want to invest in a Tech2 which is the dealer scan tool for GM cars of that vintage. There are Chinese clones for a few hundred dollars that work OK and you can do pretty much anything the dealer would have been able to do in checking codes, reading data, and configuring options. The thing is though the Tech2 is clumsy early 1990s technology and is not as easy to use as the modern fancy scan tools that you see Scotty using in his videos. However an internet search will find plenty of information on Tech2 operation.
On the other hand if you do not see yourself owning 1990s through mid-2000s GM vehicles in the future you'd be better off investing in a scan tool that can work with any make.
