We have a 2001 Maxda Tribe the ac compressor is locking up. It has the 6 in it. Can we just bypass the compressor and not replace it?

The simplest way is to leave a non-functional AC compressor in place with the clutch wire disconnected.

So, if the compressor clutch pulley still spins freely just disconnect the wire going to the clutch coil. If the clutch pulley bearing is bad though you need to do some kind of extra work - replace the bearing if possible, use a shorter fan belt, install an AC delete pulley if available, or install a junkyard compressor with a free-spinning fan clutch pulley.
