Hi Scotty, my name is Liam. I just bought a 2019 Hyundai Sonata limited this summer. It’s my first car I own myself @20 years old!
it’s the 2.4L 4 cylinder engine with the 5 speed auto. All the bells and whistles. I bought it certified pre-owned with 13k miles because I drive a ton for work and needed a car with as low mileage as possible. I put more than 35k miles on my car a year for work alone. This car was the best I could afford for the mileage and features.
I just want to know if there’s anything I should know about owning one of these? Anything I should look out for? I pride myself on taking care of my cars, so I want to be prepared.
Thanks!
Liam (from NJ)
Sorry Liam but this car is one of the worst cars that you could ever buy. Hyundai engines have a tendency of blowing up. Plus my sister's 2016 sonata which has the same engine as yours is already burning about 1 quart of oil at 67k miles. I hope you didn't pay too much money for it and I hope you don't plan on keeping it long term. Those vehicles are not any fun to work on at all.
Unfortunately you came here too late. Scotty and most others here will tell you that Hyundais just do not hold up well over time and tend to experience frequent catastrophic engine and drivetrain failure as well as electronics failure. The more features ("bells and whistles") it is equipped with the more problems it will have as it ages.
You do have low mileage going for you. About all you can do properly maintain the car and hope it lasts for a while.
