Air condition (AC) not cooling initially

Nissan Pathfinder 2004, 130000 miles, automatic

I have a weird issue with my AC.

I start the engine in the morning, I then switch on the AC. The car is just blowing warm air (not hot)

Frustrated I then switch off the AC and put it back on immediately (or sometimes on the 3rd attempt). Now the cooling kicks in. Through out the day, I switch on and off the Pathy, the AC works fine.

Its only after maybe 7 - 10 hours gap when the engine is OFF, the cooling doesn't come on immediately on starting. I'm thinking its an electrical issue.

Maintenance done:

Thermostats has been changed, radiator cleaned, new coolant, temperature is normal. AC R134a refrigerant at proper pressure.

The AC clutch does engage at all times. Cleaned the AC relay.

The only thing I have not checked is the Evaporator temperature sensor, since its behind the dash.

Any help would be appreciated.

You've probably lost some refrigerant over the last 18 years. Although you can see the compressor is pumping you really can't diagnose refrigerant charge by system pressures on a vehicle with a variable-displacement compressor. (Most have been variable displacement since the late 1990s.) The only way to be certain the refrigerant level is correct is to evacuate and recharge the system.
