I have a 2016 Nissan Rogue SL CVT FWD with 65000 in the odometer. I took it yesterday to Firestone for a Wheel Alignment, Tire Rotation, & Brake Inspection that I program every 5000 miles. It looks like the original brake pads and brake rotors are on there way out. I didn't want to know the Firestone quote because it will give nightmares in my sleep.
I looked at Oreilly Auto Parts for Brake Pads & Brake Rotors and what I don't like is that the Brake Rotors don't come in pairs as each rotor has to be purchased separately.
BrakeBest Select Brake Rotor Front - $56.99 each ($113.98 for 2)
BrakeBest Select Brake Rotor Rear - $54.99 each ($109.98 for 2)
BrakeBest Select Premium Ceramic Front Disc Brake Pads - $51.99
BrakeBest Select Ceramic Rear Disc Brake Pads - $47.99 (Premium wasn't available)
The total would be $346.85 which is still kinda high but not as much as would Firestone or Nissan would quote for the parts.
1AAuto.com has a TRQ ceramic brake pad and rotor set for $204.95. There is also a performance set for $199.95. The performance set is more expensive but has the higher discount.
The performance brake rotors are cross drilled and slotted. One thing that I am skeptical is that the brake rotors from Oreilly Auto Parts are cast iron while the ones from 1AAuto are cast alloy.
I know its better to go not too cheap and things like this.
I’ve bought autozone rotors for 15yrs and you won’t believe it but rotors have never been an issue for me.
Always have bought my rotors, pad, caliper from the part stores or dealer sometimes. Never had any issues. The part stores always sell individually. Online retailers offer packages, but you're still paying the individual prices for the most part, maybe save 2 or 3 bucks. Don't bother with drilled and slotted (tried several different ones), always seem to have issues after only like 6 months and I always hand torque lug nuts.
I've tried both bosh (OEM for my car) and Chinese rotors and couldn't feel a difference at all.
Look at the price difference, and if it's not that big I'd get the OEM,
but if it's significant just save your money and get a good after market one.
For the rotors, you can buy almost any brand. For the pads, I would either stick to the Akebono or OEM ones.
I'm going to look at Amazon as well.
Something I noticed is that they ask if the vehicle has 3rd row seating. What does that have to do with braking? Mine doesn't have the 3rd row.
I noticed the 3rd row models use a larger diameter rotor (320mm), compared to the 2 row model (295mm). Measure the rotors which are on your vehicle & order accordingly.
Typically the brake rotors don't come on pairs. Aftermarket rotors are just fine as rotors are essentially hunks of metal. Unless you are drag racing your Rogue you don't need performance rotors.
Pick the rotors that have the best warranty from a local store so if there is any problem, you can take them back. I do not trust any important auto parts on Amazon or Ebay. Too many counterfeits and fake reviews. Work gloves or bulk q-tips, yes, auto parts, no.
Before buying ANY aftermarket, if you were happy with the performance of the OEM, check their parts website like parts.toyota.com... For a 5th generation 4Runner, they are $60 each (front) and $75 each (rear), you can get OEM Toyota/Advics/Aisin rotors from a Toyota dealership PLUS free shipping. There are much more expensive off-brand ones online, why bother with them?
I once bought ACDelco rotors for a Subaru... Absolute crap and warped with a <20MPH emergency braking incident at an intersection when some girl decided red was green. They had 6,000-7,000 miles on them.
