Are Passenger Vans Worth It?

Topic starter

I have been looking for a late 90s-early 00s GMC Safari or Chevy Astro for the past couple weeks. Looked at everything from dealership sales to private party, low mileage to high mileage, and 1995-2005 models. I’ve noticed every single van I’ve looked at has been an absolute lemon. Test drives well, looks good, but every single one I’ve brought into my mechanic has turned out to be junk with a million problems.

My question is, should I continue to try to find (what feels like) the needle in the haystack, or just start looking for a different model?

Asking the only mechanic I trust 😂

Passenger vans are worth it. That's why I own a Savana.

Don't expect miracles from 20yo vehicles. Also vans are in high demand right now, so all the good ones will be taken.

I don't think vans are worth it personally. The Astro was neat in its day....my parents had one....but the vast majority are falling apart now.

I would move from finding a van to more of a Tahoe/Yukon.

If you like those you could try the Chevy express's or the GMC suburbans. I personally like the suburbans. I only have a sample of one (my former boss's) but thing was bullet proof and drove well even with blown shocks and a check engine light that has been on for 20k miles lol.

Suburban is an SUV
