How are the CVTs in the Subaru Outbacks 2016 or later? I know that 2015 was the tail end of the big problems. Also, how hard is it to get the smell of smoke out of a vehicle? It's not horribly strong but it is absolutely noticeable and it makes my nine year old daughter cough. Thanks.

Buy an ozone generator, roll the windows up, and let the unit generate ozone for a few hours. Ozone is one of the most potent oxizers there is. Molecular oxygen, O2, becomes O3 inside the generator. The presence of the third oxygen atom means the gas becomes extremely unstable and wants to react with other substances right away, including odors from cigarette smoke. If your head liner is coming down, though, it could make it worse.
Once you're done, air the car out by rolling the windows down. Ozone is a hazardous gas, so leave the car in an open area while the O3 dissipates.
