Hello Scotty, my dad is planning to buy a new Audi E-Tron 55. Do you think this will be a good first electric SUV?

greetings from The Netherlands

No.  None of the new EVs are any good, unless you have access to a really good fire extinguisher.

More like access to 30,000+ gallons of water. (That's what it takes to put out a Tesla fire and it's not likely the E-Tron will be any different.)

Unfortunately Europe is doubling down on the nonsensical electric car boondoggle much more aggressively than the U.S. is, so people there may have little choice in the matter.

We, here, are getting fewer and fewer choices as well. What do you say we elect some people with some brains?

Here in North America we usually lease them and return before the warranty expires.  Realize it’s a fairly new model with a whole new (EV) platform and technology that there will be bugs to work out.  They will still be over engineered, and you don’t want to be the guinea pig for that.  So, in that sense it’s not a good first electric SUV since it’s so new.

Does he have the option of buying a Toyota hybrid instead? Or does it have to be only EVs?

Well ur in Europe, so it may not be a bad idea, Vw/Audi have been making EVs for about half a decade and so far they seem good, but realize that they don't have as much experience as let's say, Nissan, Tesla, or Toyota. If u want one right away, I would lease it or buy and keep it for like 4-5 years, otherwise, I would wait for some more time, but I wouldn't advise u to buy Teslas.

Although Scotty did recommend Audi EV SUV over Tesla for their better build quality

I do hear about the ban of gas cars in the Netherlands in like 2030, if that's true.

It’s anyone guess with the new EV’s. They could be AMAZING reliable cars and we just don’t know it yet. Or they could be complete junk. Or maybe in between.
