[Solved] Auto Maintenance Mystery - 2011 Avalon

Hey Scotty,

So i brought my recently purchased 2011 Avalon to a trusted local shop for some regular maintenance and state inspection (NH).  Oil change, put on snow tires, alignment, and look at my headlights.  I had recently replaced my right front halogen headlight and i noticed it wasn't level with the other headlight.  they fixed this.

As I was driving home I noticed that all of my stereo presets had been reset, and I thought this was odd.  My theory is that my halogen headlights are supposed to be "auto-leveling", and at some point they disconnected the battery to reset them?  Other than this I cannot think for the life of me why my stereo presets would have disappeared, or for any other reason they disconnected the battery for this very basic maintenance appointment.  Unless, they actually changed the presets on my stereo manually, but I can't possibly believe that to be the case.

What do you think of my theory?

I think that is correct, yes.

This excerpt was from the thread:

"Sometimes if you remove the negative battery cable the system will erase the memory and go back to default which is 30 seconds delay time."

Did you try asking them?

no, because its not a problem. it is just a mystery to me as to why it happened. they are a busy shop and i don't want to come across as "complainy".

I don't think it's complainy to ask a question about your own vehicle. The job was done, so what are you afraid of? What's the worst that can happen? Are you going to hurt them with your words?
