Hello Scotty, I have a 2009 BMW 528i with an automatic transmission. It has 148,000 miles. I have recently been experiencing some problems with its automatic transmission. It will tell me the that transmission has malfunctioned at of random. It limits my speed and only gives up to two gears unless I stop and turn it off and turn it back on again. What do you think the problem is? I would greatly appreciate your answer.

Think it's time for a transmission control module. Get it an inspection and read codes to confirm.
Ok, would I need to buy this module? And would you suggest getting someone to scan codes?
A full diagnostic would be best to confirm my assumption yes. As I, nor anyone else here is physically able to inspect the car, best you can do is take it to a shop (preferably bmw specialist not dealer though) and get them to scan it with their 5-10k scanner. The info you'd get out of doing a diag for $100 bucks will be well worth it to confirm a trans problem
