What's good everyone. 2001 Honda Civic LX 5-Speed with a lil over 176,300 miles. Engine backfires when letting off the pedal or downshifting and how I can describe it you know some turbocharged vehicles have an Anti-Lag system? When it backfires you can see a flame from the muffler which no my Civic isn't turbocharged lolz. Is it a misfire and need to change the spark plugs again oooorrrr....
It sounds as though your ignition timing is out of specification. Have it properly adjusted.
What causes it?
Stretched timing belt.
You really need to get a scan tool on that thing, something's out of whack. Used to be common in the days of carbs and ignition points but haven't seen a car backfiring in ages. How old is your timing belt?
Had it replaced in June of this year
Hmm, wonder if it's slipped a cog (tensioner problem?) or wasn't quite right to begin with. A decent scan tool should tell the tale.
Most likely
Did you take our advice for your other engine problems? the hesitation, stalling, coolant leak etc..
Did it overheat and blow the head gasket when the rad hose popped? Is the engine temp reading properly?
Seems the problems are piling up faster than you can deal with them.
I did and they all got fixed. Temp gauge stays normal and doesn't have an overheating issue I figured out what caused the gauge to randomly rise it was the headers so I used coating to reduce under the hood temp. I also use Engine Ice Hi Performance Coolant I've been using it for 2 months its pretty good coolant. Head Gasket is still in perfect condition thankfully. Near stalling point has been resolved turned out it was carbon buildup in the IAC I used high mileage seafoam to clear it all out.
ok well make sure you get those valves and timing tuned up
Will do
Boy your whole car is hurtin'.
It is going to bankrupt you!
Huuuuuuuuuuuug. I'm willing to trade or sell it for another Civic but it won't be till the end of January I can
When it backfires you can see a flame from the muffler
Your ricer dream is coming true..
Yessirrrr lolz.
