- Hey Scotty, I have a 1983 mercedes benz w126 280S (solex 4A1 carb) the 4 speed auto and 200 000 miles with the m110 motor. Its been sitting for nearly 10 years but now I cleaned it a little and unsurprisingly it still starts and moves and shifts well and I was thinking of giving it to my 17 year old son for his first car but the fuel consumption is really bad. There ain't no leak and all the spark plugs are fine. The carb is ok (but I don't know for the float ) all the gaskets and joints are heavily worn out. What could be causing the bad fuel consumption? Thank you.

I'd replace the carburetor that old I'm sure it's worn out perhaps you can get a better carburetor design for it like a Weber carburetor
