car hesitates under heavy acceleration

Hey scotty, I've got a 2005 Honda Accord with 256,800+ miles with an automatic transmission. When I shift into drive when the engine temp isn't in the middle, the car hesitates under heavy acceleration, but the problem goes away after about 2 - 4 minutes or going slow for the same amount of time, what could it be? Bad transmission or something else?

Thanks!

How old are your air and fuel filters? Have you checked fuel pressure? Is the transmission slipping or failing to downshift?

My air filter is a new (cheap) stp filter, fuel filter I have no clue how old it is. I have not checked fuel pressure. The transmission doesn't slip or fail to downshift.

I'd go ahead and replace that fuel filter, assuming it has a replaceable filter. I've seen those stop cars dead in their tracks if they get sufficiently clogged.

Spark plugs would be another good thing to check if they're old or of unknown age.

I changed the spark plugs, transmission fluid and filter, and used a can of royal purple fuel system cleaner and it still happens. I'll try to get the fuel filter changed soon.

If the simple stuff doesn't fix the problem it's time to get out the scan tool and analyze data.
