I would go to your local public library and ask what they have.
I prefer paper textbooks, but Libraries today have an increasing amount of online resources.
You can also ask professors at your local technical college if they know of anything.

I applaud your desire to learn about the electronic aspects of diagnosis and scanner readings but from experience I just want to say do not get discouraged starting out it can be a lot to learn and different manufacturers can have different specs so make sure you give yourself time and patience and you will have success
