My vehicle is a 2007 Toyota Hilux with around 232000km. The wiper linkage is making a squeaking sound at the end of each stroke. It is not the wiper as I have raised the wiper blades to confirm. Previously I have used silicone spray lubricant and the noise went away for like few months and now it is back. Would using something like white lithium grease to lubricate a better idea as I prefer not to open the plastic cowling many times increasing risk of breaking those plastic clips as it is already brittle. Thanks!
A spray can of white lithium grease with a straw would probably do the trick.
Thanks for the reply. Okay definitely will use white lithium grease, initially worry about the effect on rubber and plastic but it seems the silicone spray lubricating properties weaken quickly.
The weird thing is I have taken the cowl off and use silicone spray lubricant and there is no noise at all with just the linkage moving but once I put the wiper arm on and run it the squeak return at the top and bottom of each stroke.
I also spray the wiper arm spline part but the noise is still there. When wiping the windshield dry it happens less compared to wiping the windshield wet it happens almost at every stroke.
I even checked the wiper motor mounting and it is rock solid. It appears that only with the weight of the wiper arm and wiper on the wiper linkage it produces the squeaking. I also tested by lifting the wiper arm up and running it without contacting the windshield and it still makes the noise. I am at loss. Any ideas?
Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think I could get it in my country plus it is not spray form it will be hard to lubricate fully. I guess I just stick to white lithium grease 😅

post a video please
Posted. Any ideas? 😁
expose the linkage and motor. carefully spray lube on the joints and moving parts, one at a time. When the noise stops, that is squeaky part.
I did that and spray every part and joints and it ran super smooth without noise. The moment I put the wiper arm back on and run the wipers the squeak appears 😅
Does the wiper arm linkage have a rubber bushing? Perhaps it is worn and needs replacing if that is possible.
The noise appears with a wet windshield more frequently than wiping dry.
Wipers lifted up still making the noise sometimes.
Wiper linkage is new original Toyota part after the last one has too much play. I try removing one wiper arm the noise is still there. It seems to be coming from the right side (driver side) under the cowl. I remove both wiper arms and with just the wiper linkage moving the noise disappear completely.
