Hi, to help you pick the best one, I think more information would be helpful.
What price range? are you looking for new or used? what size should it ideally be? should it be AWD and rugged, or FWD and sporty? Do you plan to use it for everyday driving or to take it off-road?
The best SUVs on the market, as I see it are RAV-4 (it's reasonably rugged and is considered to be super dependable), Mazda CX-30 and CX-5 (very sporty, safe and handle surprisingly well).
If you're looking for a more "car-like" experience, The Toyota CH-R is very nice and new Corolla Cross just came out but it seems to be an excellent car.
If you're looking for something more rugged, the highlander, Sequoia, 4Runner are great but they're a bit overpriced for what they are.
I'm not including Hondas currently because the situation with their CVTs is still unclear (Warranty extensions in place for some models and a lot of reported failures with others) and a lot of Hondas new large SUVs are becoming absolute nightmares - like in the case with this owner of a Honda Pilot (Total transmission failure at 100k and Honda couldn't fix it correctly): https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/postid/208021/
