Best/ worst years for a used Lexus ES

Looking into buying a used ES, reading reviews of older models it looks like a mixed bag. 2004-2006 seemed to have transmission issues related to jerking and hesitation. 2007 - 2008 had leaks and interior issues. Others with these same year cars had no issues at all.

Apparently 2012 is one of the best years. Any insights appreciated.

If you can find one, the 2012 is a good model year. Just make sure it has been well taken care of and your mechanic gives you the green light for purchase.

Thanks. What about 2004-2006, 2008- 2011?

The 2004-2006 They can be good cars but they have 3.3L V6 that have timing beot and being an interference engine, you need to change them every 100k miles. For the 2008-2011, I would avoid stick to the later models (2010-2011), becuase the earlier ones have dash cracking/melting issue.

If one were to go for a 04 or 05 is oil consumption a big worry for a high mileage ES?

It is not a good idea to get a car that burns oil. You will end up ruining the cat sooner or later. If they have not been taken care of by ignoring the oil change, they can become oil burner but otherwise, they are not prone to burning oil.

Thanks. Yea I have no interest in buying an oil burner, that sounds like a nightmare. I was just wondering if any year ES is known for an engine defect that causes oil burning like 07-09 Camrys

No. They are not. The Camry with the V6 engine didn't have the oil burning issue either.

Unintended acceleration is also a scary problem that came up in older models
