Hi there. Got a volvo V40 Jan 2014, 1.6 petrol, 155 bhp, 60k miles, manual. After a non stop 600miles at the first stop my blower motor started making reving sound and can't use it more than 50% of the setting as it makes an awfull reving noise. Went to my local garage they said it needs a new blower motor and it's a 4hours job PLUS THE DASHBOARD HAS TO COME OUT as it's a poorly made design hidden under the center console. Went to the Volvo dealer and got a 1400£ / 1700$ slap for that job.(blower 500£ :O ). Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Unfortunately most modern vehicles are designed that way these days and some older ones as well. It's almost like they build the HVAC system first and assemble rest of the car around that. You'll likely find the dashboard also has to come out if you ever have problems with the heater core, evaporator, or control flaps.

It's possible some debris got sucked into the blower housing and is making a racket but still you'd need to get in there to clean it out.

I pray I NEVER own a vehicle with such an atrocious HVAC design..

blower 500£

Turns out it’s a common part with the Land-rover Freelander, hence bloated price.

Have you checked the cabin air filter? That could be putting more strain on the motor when at high speeds.

I've just replaced couple of weeks ago with a quality WIX filter for polen and something. I'll check if something is wrong with it now.
