My head gasket blew, would it be more expensive to repair it for 1000 dollars according to what my mechanic said . Or should I replace the whole engine that would cost me around 400 dollars at a used auto parts shop?

Unless you are BEYOND confident that your man will repair the motor the right way the first time getting another engine is not a bad option. Weight it out and only get it rebuilt if you have 100% confidence in your mechanic. It can be fixed but if an idiot fixes it you flushing your money down the crapper. Either way its gonna be expensive and you'll spend way more than 400$ getting a used engine in there. GL
