Hey Scotty,  My wife's 2014 BMW 535i has 80,000 miles has an automatic and made in Germany. And after driving for a while there's a slight burn smell coming the the engine area. There's no smell coming from the vent's, the oil level good and from what i could see i couldn't see any oil drips anywhere. What could it be? I was thinking a valve cover gasket but not sure

Valve cover gasket sounds likely. Check the tranny for leaks

I would also suspect valve cover gasket.

If it not the value cover.  I would check the pcv tube.

It made from plastic and go brittle from the heat or oil.

I have broken mine by bumping them from doing an air filter change.

... a small puddle of oil and a smelly engine bay .. with some white smoke coming out exhaust.

Good luck.
