Hi Scotty! Love your stuff! I own a 2016 BMW750xi with twin turbo 445hp. I love the ride and power. I’m at 68k and afraid of Long term ownership costs! Recently a turbo hose is leaking and they want 1700$ to repair!
What are your thoughts of me trading for a Lexus LS500 to have similar luxury but more dependability ?? Or do I settle for a practical Avalon?? Thx- John Parvin Portland Maine

Unfortunately, the LS500 has had issues so far this generation since it came to market and has consistently ranked lower in reliability rankings compared to the competition (German).  For long term reliability the jury is still out, and I am currently not recommending anyone buy it.  My advice is to lease it instead or just buy the Avalon - which is a great car and often overlooked.

In that case you might want to get rid of it and get a Toyota Avalon or as mentioned above a Lexus ES.

If an Avalon will do, why not an ES350? Lexus AND sensible

Thx.. I like the Avalon’s too.

Daywalker I am not in the lease market due to driving 18-20k a year.

thx !

Then you might as well buy the Avalon. Right now it’s risky buying the LS500 for long term ownership.

Appreciate you. Thx

$1700 to replace a turbo hose? Wow. It's an easy fix, but it's very labor intensive since things need to be removed from the crammed up engine bay lol.

The issue is Bmw garage said you can’t replace the single leaking hose.. you need the entire turbo housing kit. Come on man!!

@jparvin
Oh well you didn't mention that part. I thought it was just the hose that was leaking, but if it's leaking from the actual turbo housing then that's a big fix for sure.
