Hey Scotty!
I am buying my first car in a couple of years and just wanted to ask your opinion of the BMW M240 2017. It has the same engine and Transmission as the Toyota Supra and was rated 88/100 reliable by JD power and was considered reliable by Consumer Reports. What do you think of it and do have alternatives? Thanks!
Never blindly trust any surveys.
Don’t do it! If you must have a BMW, lease one new & get it out of your system. The new Supra itself is just a rebadged BMW.
I agree, don't buy one. Lease it.
It’s a blast to drive that M240, … ‘till you have to repair it with money out of your own pocket, … and it fails frequently! Actually, these cars kept failing right out of the box, under warranty. It’s true, … it’s not as catastrophic as, say, … M2s, but pretty damn close.

What generally fails?
Like you name it. Folks I know who leased them - yes, in my end of the woods, BMWs are leased, and almost never purchased - spend more time driving loaners than their leased ones. Problems? Interiors, electronics, vibration, wheel failures, oil consumption, oil leaks, automatics. Exterior plastic parts! I attribute quite a bit of these problems to incompetency of service departments: not fixing problems properly in a first place!
Anyway, … you are looking at ‘17 model in about 2 years, by than, these cars, most likely be very, very cheap, … or perhaps, all scrapped? Dunno, … folk drive a hell out of them, … because they fun to drive!
Cheers,
F.S.
Thanks for the advice and caution do you know of any similar alternatives that you think are reliable? Thanks again!

Biggest failure on these is the crank hub.
… say ‘15 Lexus RC F, if you can find a good one!

BMW's are AMAZING vehicles. They just cost an arm and a leg to maintain, and heaven forbid, repair.
I gotta agree with this, an old M3 is a hoot to drive... but would never buy one ... again!
Couldn’t agree more!
