Hi, i've got an 06 toyota solara 126k miles, my brake light came on today, yellow, please what should I check first, will like to take a look at it before taking it to the mechanic.
Thank you for your responses.
You might just be low on brake fluid Jack that if you are add some and if it doesn't leak out it does evaporate a little over time.
Low brake fluid. There is a sensor in the reservoir. I overheated my brakes coming down a mountain and mine came on. After the brakes cooled, it went off. Have the brake fluid changed if it's more than 3 years old because it's hydroscopic or absorbs moisture from the air and starts to fail. Dot 3 doesn't have to be changed as often as dot 4 or 5.
Check your brake fluid reservoir near the firewall, it may be a little low on fluid.
Thank you all, I will do that, I bet the brake fluid hasn't been changed all it's life.
Probably a good idea to bleed out the brakes system with new fluid after 16 years.
