I remember Scotty recommending a certain brand of brake pads, and it wasn't one I had seen. Can anyone clue me in? Thanks.
Akebono
Thanks. I thought that was what it was, but wasn't sure. Saw them on amazon.
I feel like any brake pad you get from a good auto parts store (Autozone, Napa, O'reilly, etc.) are great quality. I used Napa's premium semi-metallic brake pads for my last brake job on my BMW, and they are performing great! Out of all the other brake pads I've tried (Autozone's Duralast pads, Power stop's pads, and even the OEM Bosch pads on my BMW before), the Napa ones have performed the best in my opinion.
Now, of course, you can go with OEM brands like Akebono, Bosch, EBC, AC Delco, etc. but those are more expensive. The brake pad material plays a role in the pricing too (ceramics cost the most).
Don’t do what I did. I bought the cheapest brake pads from Rock Auto, and they squeaked. After 6-weeks with those on my car, I threw them away and got some break pads from Advance Auto. Squeak went away. I’d like to try Akebono next time. My advice for the day. Don’t buy anything from Rock Auto that is in the “economy” class. You want “daily driver” category or OEM or better. Rock Auto has Akebono too
