Hey Scotty....I recently bought my brothers 2004 Toyota Solara convertible with 67000 miles on it with the 3.3l v6 engine and automatic transmission .....getting ready to overhaul the brake system and want to know what brake rotors you would recommend as I don't want to buy anything made in China....its never had the brakes worked on during the entire time my brother owned the car since he bought it brand new in 2004.....still a fair amount of material on the pads and the rotors seem to still be in good shape as it was his highway cruiser on long trips and never seen any local driving.
OEM rotors, Akebono pads.
All other options will be Chinese.
Good luck. I couldn't find any not made in China.
As @mountainmanjoe said, it’s hard to find parts which aren’t made in China these days. In your case though, just get OEM rotors since your brother got more than 15 years out of the factory rotors. You might as well replace the brake pads with Akebonos too, while you’re at it.
After you see the cost of OEM rotors, you just might take a second look at some of the good quality Chinese stuff.
Your only other option may be to look for rotors which are made in Thailand. Again, good luck with that endeavour.
You can go OEM and get the break pads that Scotty recommends…
On my car I was curious to see if there’s any difference between OEM (in my case it’s Bosh) and cheap chinese rotors and the answer is: “nope, I can’t feel the difference”
Id just get chinese rotors and maybe nicer pads if you don’t like the sound they make.
"feeling" is not good enough. Rotors need fairly high tolerances. You have to put a straight edge on it , and shine a light from behind, and measure the thickness in several spots using a micrometer. From what I hear, most of the rotors coming in from the far east come pre-warped in the box. Probably because they are using crap metal, and skipping vital stress relief/tempering steps in the casting process.
Don’t know, I trust my supplier.
They’re quality fancy parts and never have I or the hundred or so other mechanics using the same supplier had any issues.
What I care about is how the breaking feels and not if it’s 3-5 feet shorter or longer when stopping from 60
It is just a rotor (not a spaceship) and you can find good Chinese ones. As @ said, you may not notice any difference between Chinese and others.
Look at EBC.
