HI. I bought a Honda Civic Lx 2025 and i have driven it 1700 miles. When i went to the American Honda dealership for the first oil change they said that your oil change is due when it is 15%. I told them that the first oil change is due earlier due to break in period but they said it is not required.  They told me that even if i do it from pocket i will reset the system and i will lose my free oil change. So what should i do.

Oil and filter is cheap so do it sooner if that is what makes you feel better. A free oil change is not worth it. And don't take your car to the dealership for an oil change, if you can't do it yourself take it to a trusted independent mechanic.

If you do decide to take it to the dealership for early "out of pocket" oil change, make sure to mark the oil filter and bolt washer with magic marker.  There is a good chance the dealer will charge you but won't do a thing if the oil is still clean... Unfoundedly, finding "trusted" independent mechanic is almost impossible..

Ignore the dealership and go ahead change the oil. After this initial oil change, continue changing the oil every 5000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first.
