Yes! Toyota and 0W-16 oil: Here in Canada, recommended service for the oil change is 16,000 km. This means that first service, at 8,000 km does not include oil service. Fair enough.
And so, goes the story: customer buys a new car, drives it, at 8,000 km s/he gets a message: Service Required, which means Service #1. Customer ignores it for a while - piddly stuff on the list: … and average one drives another 2,000 - 3,000 km before going for service. No harm done, … service is done, fee paid (C$97.76 flat fee), sticker to the windshield attached, odometer reading recorded, next service:whatever odometer + 8,000 km or six months! Cool, … life goes on. Customer drives away.
Eight thousand kilometres passes, … customer tardy, drives another 1,000 km or so before going for Service #2.
Well, … by now that new - to the customer car - has been operated on original oil fill and filter for:
8,000 + 2,000 + 8,000 + 1,000 = 19,000 kilometres, … and that’s a very best scenario!
Anyway, … talking to service guys, I’m finding that what those service guys are finding is: plentiful signs of substantial engine damage primarily due to bad, bad lubrication. Substantially increased of oil consumption is primary result, … plus many other things!
Apparently, 6 out of 10 cars coming for service are facing this situation.
… so you know.

Which engine or engines? And which MY vehicles?
A25 Dynamic Force series. I have ‘19 RAV4 Trail, so I keep in touch with service department. It’s my first Toyota so I’m very curious. My car is fine, … I do religious 8,000 km oil and filter change. Now car is at 42,000+ km. fwiw.
